fred’s tree, guest and main houses

We spend about two to four percent of our time outdoors, which Northern Californian Fred Reid declares “is very sad!” As an antidote, his property features perfect tree, guest and main houses. “When you’re in a small house like these,” he explains, “nature is bigger and nature is more important.” Let’s take a look.

Treehouse video:  Reid’s architect, who shows the treehouse, built an observation tower to eliminate stress on the redwoods. While in the tower, you do feel like another tree in the grove! We might add comforts with solar electricity, water access, a lower-level shower and loo.

Three house video:  Owner Reid shares his “just enough” space to appreciate the outdoors. All three houses are open to light yet have forested views. Inside, the functional and simple furniture is spot-on. We’re ready to move into the tiny guest house anytime.

Realistic for you?  While Fred Reid has helmed airlines and is surely well-off, his practical approach to useable and natural spaces isn’t only for millionaires. It’s possible to find property that works for an affordable small house, tiny cabin or house on wheels.
